[Renoise PCM Remake] Zero Wing - Open Your Eyes (PCM Channel Remaster)
Zero Wing has some PCM playback problems, mainly, the Z80 chip stops streaming audio data to the DAC while it's doing something else, so we hear some sort of stuttery effect to the PCM channel. So I extracted all PCM samples from the game and remade it using Renoise so we can hear the full quality of the samples for the first time.

Composed by Yuzo Koshiro. This is the MML version of the same song in the Nintendo DS release. I'm guessing Koshiro-san made the original soundtrack for the DS using MML originally? Either way, it sounds great.

      Considering the features you get, it's waaaay cheaper than FL studio but then, you should be comfortable working with a tracker-like interface, and that's where the problem is. Personally, I find tracker interfaces more comfortable so I use it (plus I'm broke and can't afford to buy even the cheapest FL Studio (which is very limited for my needs))

      @@KYLXBN yeah, for most people a tracker interface is just another layer of strange compared to piano roll, and i'm sure it puts a lot of people off right out of the gate. i first learned about renoise when i found out that hitori tori and bye2 use it lol

      I am actually considering this!! Same with Shinobi III. I really hate ReMAsTerEd uploads that have lots of reverb and use totally different samples, not to mention obviously different drum patterns. My life goal is to fix that-at least if I can 😅

    Ngl, the DS version is superior because even if some say "More channels = Better" I say that all that matters is the sample quality, my perfect example of this is the "phantom forest" of Final Fantasy 6 comparing the GBA to the SNES The GBA is way better, and even if the SNES-imps say "but its crunchy" I say, to hell with it, I preffer real instruments without static noice and more realistic wind noices

    The ST's sound chip is rubbish - it always was even on its release and yet, perhaps because of this, it's been pushed to make some incredible sounds. I love ST chip tunes and back when effects like buzztone, sidsound etc came out I took it as normal, until you realise what the machine is having to do to make these sounds on top of a 50hz demo. Crazy really. Thanks for uploading this great tune! I'll now have a look to see if you've covered Tao's 'Breath 2000' as I've love to see what that looks like :) *edit* seems not but someone else has. Thanks again though!

    I'm surprised you got so many skipped notes on that capture, they seem to be much more common whenever a sound effect plays but can still happen when only the BGM is playing if I remember correctly. And yes, I played too much Etrian Odyssey (this one specifically) not to notice x) Also for anyone wondering: the DS soundtrack was sampled from PC-88, which happens to have a Yamaha sound chip that's very similar to the Mega Drive's. I strongly suggest having a listen to the (technically original) PC-88 version of the OST, some tracks have pretty interesting differences while others sound almost identical. And as far as I know, the HD version probably uses the PC-88 version ported to custom Cubase VST plugins.

      I uploaded the original PC-XX version after this :) I was wondering about that skipped notes too! The skipped snare drum was really bothering me, but I can't seem to find the reason why that could happen-was it the 2SF file I have? But they're really simple MIDI-like files and nothing could have gone wrong when ripping them, so it must be the emulator? But this isn't emulated, I'm running this on a real N3DS! It was frustrating. So I guess skipped notes are natural with this game?

      @@KYLXBN I played the EU version on original hardware (DS Lite then DSi XL) and yes, skipped notes are definitely a thing in this game. It's not just the snare drum by the way, the melody and bassline also had a few. As I said it seems more frequent when other sound effects are playing (which could make some sense if they're competing for the same sound channels), but I also noticed it happening without doing anything, be it standing still on the field or not pressing anything in battle. This game has some weird bugs like this or the map screen using inverted colours at random...

      Sorry, the source files for that song is not released publicly, as far as I know. It's made using Renoise, so I will need the original XRNS file and all plugins he used (on top of his permission) so without the XRNS file, we can't really do much...
